Over the course of several years I have had a total knee and total hip replacement performed by Mr. Sood. I am a doctor and consider myself fortunate to be able to consult and be treated by Mr. Sood. He maintains the best of traditional medical practice whilst at the same time embracing and developing modern advances and techniques in all aspects of patient management and treatment. His direct and friendly approach is reassuring. He is an excellent communicator and involved me in all stages of my management. Both procedures were expertly performed with an excellent recovery period and result, which is testament to his skill as a surgeon. I was regularly followed up after surgery and had every opportunity to discuss my postoperative care with him. I have no hesitation in recommending Mr. Sood and have referred relatives and friends to him. I consider him to be an outstanding role model to junior members of the profession and in particular aspiring orthopaedic surgeons.

Great surgeon. The removal of pain has been complete compared with the arthritic pain I had endured for years prior to the operation. Mr Sood is also very approachable and easy to talk to. In addition his secretary supports him well and is also very quick and thorough answering any queries you may have.

He was recommended by an existing patient who is one of my oldest friends. Further, I have recommended Mr Sood to one of my family!

I required diagnosis for a problematic and painful knee joint. Mr Sood and his team were professional from the very start. Medical investigation for diagnosis was prompt as was the follow up appointment discussion for treatment leading to a positive diagnosis and proposed surgical procedure. I had questions in my mind regarding the knee anatomy, surgical procedure, immediate mobility after surgery and recovery. I didn’t need to ask them it was all covered I just needed clarity. Warmly welcomed by hospital staff ( I chose Hatfield 1 ) on arrival and made comfortable, later greeted by Mr Sood in my private room. The surgical procedure went well and was explained to me after recovery with as much detail as I required. I was comfortable at all times and well catered for. I am really pleased with the outcome, I have no pain and good mobility. I communicated this at the follow up appointment with Mr Sood where I currently continue to build strength back in to my knee as discussed. I should add that the above took place under the Covid -19 period. I felt safe at all times in all areas. I would have no hesitation in approaching Mr Sood for diagnosis and treatment in the future.

Profile

Mr Sood is a renowned Hip and Knee Surgeon who deals with all Hip and Knee issues as well as sports injuries. He has been in Specialist Consultant Practice since 2004. He treats all lower limb sports injuries and tendon pain, particularly tendinopathies. He also has considerable expertise in knee arthroscopy, ACL reconstruction, cartilage regeneration procedures, and hip and knee replacement (including revision and complex cases).

He is proud to have been awarded both the Top Doctors Certificate of Excellence for his patient ratings in 2020 and the iWantGreatCare Certificate of Excellence in 2021 for delivering outstanding care. He has also been recognised by his NHS Trust by the award of 3 Clinical Excellence awards

Mr Sood is a firm believer in preserving native joints (joint preservation) by reconstructing joint damage using cartilage regeneration techniques and biological therapies. He is also, however, an expert hip and knee joint replacement surgeon where arthritis is too advance for joint preservation. His data from The National Joint Registry shows that he has excellent patient outcomes and a very low risk of complications.

Mr Sood has excellent communication skills and provides his patients with jargon-free explanations about their problems. He assesses his patients very carefully and organises specialist scans when needed to arrive at an accurate diagnosis. He only works with a very select team of specialist radiologists to ensure high quality scan interpretation. After diagnosis he provides a clear individualised treatment plan to his patients that considers their individual circumstances and their exercise/activity goals. He provides a wide range of treatment choices suited to each patient, including non-surgical options.

His extensive experience allows him to diagnose and treat more rare conditions, and he is often sought out to provide second opinions. In his referral practice, he manages the most complex and challenging cases such as hip and knee replacements that have failed and must be redone. Mr Sood runs a hip and knee unit at Bedfordshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and has earned three Clinical Excellence Awards for his work.

Mr Sood treats all lower limb Sports injuries in athletes and weekend warriors and also has an interest in the treatment of Tendon Pain especially Tendinopathies.

Mr Sood graduated from Guys Hospital in 1992 and went on to train at The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) where he became Clinical Lecturer to the Professorial Unit. In 2004, he received additional Specialist training in Hip and Knee Surgery at two Centres of Excellence in North America, The Mayo Clinic and Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was mentored by two of the world's best hip and knee surgeons.
